Hospice care is end-of-life care that begins after a patient has stopped receiving treatment for their illness and when it has become clear that they will not survive it. In most cases, hospice care is offered only when a patient has a life expectancy of 6 months or less. The goal of hospice care is to provide peace, comfort, and dignity for terminal patients. These services are mostly to control pain and other symptoms so the patient can remain alert and comfortable for as long as possible. Hospice programs also provide support for patients’ families. Hospice care is usually provided at home or at a hospice centre, hospital, or nursing facility.
